1st real post. Poker topics first, and then random musings.

I made a prop bet with Mike to see who can achieve the highest winrate at nl100 over 30k hands.

I feel like I can win 5 -6 ptbb long term at this limit but he has the advantage of running like a sweet baby kenyan jesus on his side.

Here’s my graph so far

Winning at 8.09 ptbb thanks to a +6.5 buyin day today.

I used to be a 3 ptbb winner this time last year because I never really thought about WHY I’d be making plays, flop textures, bluffing scare cards, floating, and correctly estimating and weighing opponent ranges in situations.

But I have learned a TON in the past few months thanks to to watching patrick play on FTP. Also, I played nl50 and nl100 HU for a 10k hand period or so and I found that really improved my hand reading abilities. Also it kind of turned me into a station.

poker related goals this month are as follows:

-Win 30k hand prop bet vs mike at nl100

-Establish myself at nl200 with a comfortable bankroll and win 4ptbb (longer term?)

-Play 50k+ hands this month. Last month I only played 30k but I really was playing the best I ever have at 6-max.

I’ve really struggled at nl200. It’s very shocking to me beacause the games are virtually identical to nl100 with the exception of slightly more aggressive regulars. Admittedly I have been very unlucky when I’m taking shots but I went through the same cycle when I moved up from nl50—> nl100. I think I tend to overadjust and level myself when playing higher stakes. I get really aggressive if I think someone is 3 betting me light when in reality the best way to adjust is to take your lumps and start opening tighter in late position. 4 betting and calling 3 bets and bluff raising or floating are options but with the image I had at most of the nl200 tables I’d be looked up like a hard word in a dictionary.  I guess I amto a certain extent intimidated by the amount of money in play, and even though I’ve had several  -1k days and logged about 40k hands at nl200 lifetime.

In other news I think I need to never drink and smoke at the same time again. I have been getting hangovers worse than usual lately and they just brutalize the entire following day. I think I’m getting old.

I want to learn to do something new this summer, thoughts that sprung to mind are

a. rock climbing – I am strong but I am also heavy this would require me to change alot of my exercise and diet habits

b. bartending – I don’t want to drink alot but it’s pretty cool to be able to mix a wide assortment of drinks with flashy style.

c. squash / racquetball – I already play racquetball a bit but there is a sad lack of leagues for a player of my skill around town. Young players that want to learn are few and far between.

Anyways, some longer term goals that I have are:

a. sort out what the shit I am going to do for a career

b. improve my blues/rock guitar technique and start learning jazz. I will probably take lessons beause everything I’ve done has been learned from the internet and guitar pro 3.

c. travel somewhere exotic and hot and pick up a few STD’s (standard imo)

d. learn basic stock market / investing stuff and invest 10k this summer. Also, deposit enough into my RRSP so it can get underway

Depending on Patrick’s results, we may be going to Uruguay for the LAPT. The place is called Punta Del Esta and it looks absolutely fantastic. It’s a coastal tourist town, the kind of place that just explodes during the summer time but has very few year-round residents. Plane tickets are going to run about $1k but that’s alright since we’ll be there for about 5 or 6 days just chilling on the beach. I won’t play the $2500 main event unless I do very well in the upcoming 4 months that seperate this post and the tournament. The side action should be really fun and unlike most online players I really enjoy playing live poker because I have the patience / a sense of humour regarding the differences between a live and online game. I just love bs’ing with players at the table and I think most people think I’m a freak and a weird dude when I start talking at the live games haha. I’ll probably get shot in Uruguay.

I have supernova status on pokerstars which makes me kind of a big deal. I get a good amount of FPP’s along with my winnings but you never really notice them or realize that they have cash value through use of the concierge.

I am thinking of buying a studio Les Paul using FPP’s

sexy imo, but I don’t want to look like a tool with minimal technical skill and wielding this supreme piece of guitarist weaponry so I’ll hold off until I’m better / more understanding of what it means to own a nice guitar.

Finally, I’d like to say that Halo just isn’t as good of a game as everyone thinks it is. It’s so shallow there is no real deep strategy that goes into the game. Too much of it is about not having idiots on your team and avoiding getting killed by rockets.
